1. I cannot start Smart Framer. What can I do?
Smart Framer works in a pop-up window. Check that you do not have any software that blocks pop-up windows.
2. Are the images I uploaded and the mouldings in Smart Framer to scale?
Yes, but it is crucial that you enter the correct picture width and height for it to work. We suggest that you measure it in real. Smart Framer can calculate the actual moulding needed to frame your picture. You then have an option to purchase these materials online.
3. Smart Framer seems to load abit slow on my machine. Can I make it load faster?
Smart Framer is designed for speed and usability. The speed of your internet connection usually determines the browsing speed.
4. How can I save the Image anytime in Smart Framer?
There is a save link below the image in every step of Smart Framer. Click on the link and you will be prompted to save the image in your computer.
5. My uploaded image is not displaying properly in Smart Framer.
Smart Framer works best in Internet Explorer 5.5 and above. If you are experiencing problems using other browsers, try switching it to the latest version of Internet Explorer. Smart Framer should work with firefox.
One common problem that many people experienced is the use of wrong image format. Make sure that the image you uploaded is either "jpg, gif, or png". If you have scanned or edited the image, try changing the dpi to 72. The width or height of the image need not go beyond 450 pixels. So, keeping the image and file size small is the key to make Smart Framer work faster.
If the image fails to display after step 3, try changing the mouldings and mat board colors to refresh the image. Alternatively, you may go back to the previous step and work from there. In the worst case scenario, click on the restart Smart Framer link at the bottom of the window to restart the application.
6. I do not have a digital camera or a soft copy of my image. Can I still use Smart Framer?
Yes. Click on the sample image option when you are in the first step of smart framer. Make sure you enter the correct picture dimension.
7. I am happy with the mouldings and mat board settings in Smart Framer. How do I purchase the mouldings and mat boards I want?
In the last step of Smart Framer, fill in the the form with your credit card details.
8. Can I jump steps in Smart Framer?
You may jump steps by using the quick links at the bottom navigation links of the window. We advise you to follow the steps if you are getting errors in the final calculation.
9. Every time I print the final page from the browser, the page seems to crop itself.
You may try printing in landscape mode and everything should fit into the page.
10. I like Smart Framer a lot, can I buy it and run it on my PC?
Smart Framer needs a server to run as it uses server-side scripting. It will not work as a stand-alone software on your PC. However, we are looking at the possibility of making it as a stand-alone software in the future so that you can install it and run it on your PC.
11. There are so many matboard colours in Smart Framer, can you suggest any good combinations with my picture?
The framing industry has no books, no set theory, not hard and fast rules on how to pick colours. There are some personal opinions from various writers but that's all they are. However it's not as hard as you may think.
The obvious starting point is to go for a colour that's in the picture, then vary the shades from darkest to lighter to see which suits best. An inner mat is used to sharpen the image. If the inner mat is darker, that will increase the contrast between the light and dark areas in the picture which in turn sharpens the image, giving it a better look. An inner mat is both decorative and functional.
There is one or two rules that is good to follow. Always make the outer mat border at least 2 1/2". 2" mats do not work. The wider the mat, the more you will see the picture. The other rule relates to the surroundings. The colours you chose of the mounts should have NOTHING to do with your taste or the colours in the room. If you do your job correctly, you should see the picture, not what surrounds it. Many people make mistake by starting to use their personal taste or decorator themes in picture or photo framing.
You can practice all this by using the Smart Framer program on our web site. Upload some of your own digital photos and see for yourself by framing them online.
